What changed
on elsegundo.xyz.
New pages, data and research notes, newest first. Not an official City of El Segundo page.

A more useful daily visit
- The daily briefing assembles current source-linked conditions and local headlines, dated Halloween events, a small lesson and a work link. The JSON and copyable text draft use the same records. It does not send email or publish to social media.
- Halloween around El Segundo collects organizer-linked events with dates, times and source checks. Past dates remain a dated archive.
- The local workday adds employer sources and ways to make more of the day; openings and eligibility remain with employers.
- Five-minute AI offers four practical, fully visible local exercises. Existing full lessons remain available.
- Park Circles can prepare a tentative personal calendar file. A download is not a reservation, a public event or an invitation.
- /metro, a South Bay transit guide with GTFS ride times, day trips and a project tracker. /metro.json is a static file, updated by pull request.
- /webhooks. Bots can get a signed ping when a Rec Park pickleball court opens up, plus agendas, transit, conditions and record changes. Feeds need no signup.
- News relevance now filters known unrelated LAX matches and context-free ballot arguments in stored results as well as new refreshes. Continue to check every source; this is not a complete fact check.
Earlier releases
The local dashboard, pickleball guide, iPhone widget and Santa Barbara student desk followed the earlier notes below. Older plans and research describe their dates, not a guarantee of current status.

Added
- Local voices directory (/local-voices, /local-voices.json). 197 X accounts within 25 miles of El Segundo, each checked on X today: 33 founders, 43 startups and builders, 17 investors and cohorts, 59 civic accounts, 20 newsrooms, 22 businesses and venues, and 3 community connectors. Sixty-four are El Segundo–based. Each entry lists role, city, follower snapshot and why it's useful, and 55 include a recent local post. Inclusion isn't endorsement. Elected officials not on the ballot are marked; active candidates in the Nov 3 election are left out until after the election, for even-handed coverage.
- @elsegundotoday on X, the site's companion account. It's set up as:
- A pinned intro explaining the account (El Segundo + 25 miles, sources in replies, not an official City account), with art by Michael Hoydich (Midjourney), labeled as imagined art.
- About 4 posts a day (around 7:30a, 11:30a, 4:30p and 6:30p PT): morning conditions from the site's live feeds, a midday resource or civic note, an afternoon calendar item or alert, and an evening art post.
- At least one poll a day, to learn what neighbors want, plus one short learning post a day drawn from the site's lessons.
- The first poll asks whether people would want local AI education classes.

Research highlights (Oct 24 sweep)
- Data centers: the five-story, roughly 160-foot data center proposed for 750 N Nash St was withdrawn in July (Urbanize LA). At its Tuesday, Oct 20 meeting the City Council extended its data center moratorium, to September 2027 per Public News Service (city recap post).
- Nov 3 ballot: Measure CT asks whether to restore a business license tax on nonprofits that don't serve a charitable purpose and exempt charitable organizations, restoring about $700,000 a year to the general fund (ballot question, LA County RR/CC). Redondo Beach Measure ART covers zoning changes allowing more development along Artesia and Aviation Boulevards and in some other commercial and industrial areas, and lower allowed housing density on some residential and mixed-use properties (ballot question).
- Street safety: prosecutors charged the driver in the Oct 9 fatal crash at Aviation and Manhattan Beach Blvd with murder and DUI-related counts; the charges are allegations and haven't been proven in court, and arraignment is set for Oct 26 (Easy Reader).
- Refinery: Chevron said a mechanical issue caused intermittent use of the El Segundo refinery's safety flares (Reuters via TradingView, Oct 1).
Planned: bot-friendly improvements
- Updates feed in RSS and JSON Feed, so bots, readers and @elsegundotoday can see what changed.
- Civic calendar endpoint: council meetings, public-comment deadlines, ballot dates, and LAX and Metro closures, each with a source link.
- Beach-water alerts endpoint: county advisories and Heal the Bay grades, since weather alone isn't a beach-safety signal.
- Publish the civic pages as pages plus JSON: the monthly 25-Mile Pulse, the promise tracker and the program rankings, listed in llms.txt and the sitemap.
- schema.org markup: Organization and Place data with a
sameAslink to https://x.com/elsegundotoday, so search and AI tools know the site and the account are one project. - MCP server wrapping the El Segundo Oracle API, so AI assistants can plug in directly. It's also a template other towns can copy.
- llms-full.txt (the whole site in one file), /.well-known/agents.json (moved from the site root), and a lastUpdated field on every dataset.
