Make real pages people in El Segundo use: places, maps, pickleball data, AI art and a local price and inventory ledger. There’s no interview. Your first assignment is your application.
Run by Michael Hoydich, who makes elsegundo.xyz. Pay, hours and school credit aren’t set on this page. They’re agreed with Michael before any work starts.
HOW IT WORKS
Four steps. Then you’re in.
Everyone starts the same way. Friends hear about it from friends.
01Do the first assignment
One sourced fact for a place page. It takes about an hour and it’s the whole application.
02Send it in
The apply form below turns it into an email for you to send. Say who sent you.
03Bring two friends
Make your invite link and send it to two people who’d be good at this.
04Take a job
Pick work off the open board. Each job ends in something live on the site.
THE HEADLINE PROJECT
A price and inventory ledger for the town.
What El Segundo has, and what it’s worth.
We’re building a public ledger of the town: the hospitals in reach, rail and bus lines, parks, schools and fire service, what each costs on the public record, and where coverage falls short.
Every number quotes its source. Missing numbers say unavailable, never zero. Beside the ledger sits a draft design for a local market, with prices set in the open, AI helping to appraise and sort out disputes, and a person making the final call. Nothing is for sale yet.
Interns do the inventory. You find the numbers, quote the source and mark what’s missing. It’s the best way to learn how a town actually works.
The ledger lists what El Segundo has, from hospitals in reach to rail, buses, parks, schools and fire service, and what each costs on the public record. Some figures are still marked unavailable. Find one in the agency's own budget, plan or report.
Done when: The asset, the figure, the exact words it came from, the link and the date you checked it.
Pick one gap the ledger names, like late-night bus service or how far the nearest emergency room is, and see if a newer official source changes the answer.
Done when: What the ledger says, what the newer source says in its own words, the link and the date.
What you type stays in this browser until you send the email. Prefer to write directly? mh@pointcast.xyz. An application isn’t a confirmed spot.
BRING TWO FRIENDS
One brings two. Two bring four.
That’s how the crew grows. No posting, no recruiter.
you
Once you’ve sent in your first assignment, make your link and send it to two friends who’d be good at this. When they apply, the form already knows you sent them.
Credit: when someone you sent finishes their first assignment, the crew board shows your handle next to theirs, if you both say yes. Handles only, never full names.
OPEN JOBS
Work waiting for someone.
Put a job’s code in your application to take it. Board updated November 1, 2026.
PLACES-1PlacesStarter
Fix one place page
This is the first assignment below. Pick a place you know, find one fact its page is missing or has wrong, and source it.
Done when: The place, the fact, the exact words, the link and the date you checked.
Make one illustration of a public place with an AI image tool. No people in it. It goes up labeled as AI artwork with the tool's name, never as a photo.
Done when: The image, the place, the tool and model you used, and your prompt.
