LAX SkyLink status

This is a short explainer of the LAX Automated People Mover, which Los Angeles World Airports calls SkyLink. It is not an airport page. Opening dates below that do not come from LAWA are marked reported.

Checked Oct 31, 2026. Official status: flylax.com/skylink. Official sheet: Myth vs. Fact, information current as of October 23, 2026.

What LAWA says it is

On flylax.com, SkyLink is a free, all-electric train on an elevated track, with six stations. LAWA says the ride from one end to the other will take about 10 minutes. The same page says there will be no fare, no ticket and no app.

The October 23, 2026 information sheet says construction is complete: a 2.25-mile guideway, six stations and the full fleet are in place. What remains, the sheet says, is making sure it is safe and reliable before passengers ride.

It is not open

flylax.com says SkyLink is not open to travelers. The system is in final testing and certification. Opening information will be posted on that page. Until then, LAWA says to keep using shuttles and current signage for parking, rental cars and ground transportation.

The same page says trains you see moving are part of testing and are not in service. The information sheet says running a full schedule without passengers is a required part of testing.

When it is open, LAWA says the train will run 24 hours a day, about every 2 minutes from 9 am to 11 pm and every 3 to 5 minutes from 11 pm to 9 am. Detailed trip planning, including station connections, will be added to the flylax.com page before service begins. This page does not invent those connections.

No confirmed opening date

LAWA's October 23, 2026 sheet says no opening date can be confirmed until LINXS, the contractor, completes final testing. It says LINXS says testing could be completed in as few as 30 days, and that any dates released by other parties are estimates, not confirmed dates. LAWA says it will announce opening once every step is complete.

reported The Los Angeles Times, on Oct 29, 2026, reported that the contractor's latest monthly progress report put passenger service at Feb 5, a month after a prior expected date of Jan 6, and that LAWA disputed the contractor's account of the delay. Los Angeles Times. That February date is the contractor's estimate in a news report. It is not an opening date from LAWA.
