A TIER LIST, WITH THE MATH SHOWN
Each plan is priced as if you use it the way its tier is sold: an entry plan covers one of the example months below, and a tier the vendor sells as “5x” or “20x” the usage covers five or twenty of them. That month is priced at the API list price of an everyday model the plan includes (we picked comparable mid-priced models, not each vendor’s priciest, so this compares plans rather than model prices) and divided by the plan price. A plan that states its included usage in dollars uses the vendor’s figure instead. Under $1 means the same use would cost less at API prices. Estimates, not caps: vendors don’t publish limits in tokens, hitting a limit early lowers your number, and API credits some plans add on top aren’t counted.

How to read it: if your month costs more at API prices than the plan, the plan is the better deal, as long as you stay inside its limits. Light users often spend less than a dollar at API prices, which is why the free plans are usually enough. Heavy coding is where the $100–$200 tiers pay off.
