Here / The beach bike path / from Grand Avenue

You’re on the beach bike path.

Twenty-two miles of paved path run along this coast, and you’re on the El Segundo stretch.1 Pick a direction and a place to turn around.

How long have you got?

  1. 5 minutes

Stop at Grand Avenue and look both ways. North is Dockweiler, which runs from here to Ballona Creek.2 South, the path runs the length of El Segundo Beach to the Manhattan Beach border.3

  2. An hour

Ride south to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Inside Manhattan Beach, stay under 15 miles per hour and walk your bike in the zone on both sides of the pier.4 Lock up and walk out the pier: it’s 928 feet long, with a free aquarium at the end.5

  3. Half a day

Ride north the length of Dockweiler, 3.7 miles of beach,7 past its RV park6 to the bridge over Ballona Creek into Playa del Rey.6 Turn around there.

Three things to notice.

  1. Look inland. North of Grand, the Hyperion plant fills the skyline;6 around El Segundo Beach it’s the Chevron refinery and the Scattergood plant.3
  2. Listen for the jets.6 Count how many planes cross the path between two lifeguard towers.
  3. Notice the pace of everyone sharing the path with you. Match the slowest person near you for one minute.

These are suggestions for your attention, not facts about the place.

Good to know here.

If something’s wrong.

Call 9-1-1
  • Hurt in the water or on the sand? El Segundo Beach has a lifeguard;3 wave to the nearest open tower.
  • Done for the day? Grand Avenue is the way back up the hill into town, with paid parking at the bottom.10

What this spot is for.

The same words tag every guide, so a phone, an AI or, one day, a pair of glasses can find the right one for what you’re doing. How the tags work.

Before you go.

Pull off the path before you stop, and look back before you pull out again.

Nothing on this page knows where you are. You opened it here; that’s all it needs. The full place page and the beach guide have more.
