ASTRA CAMPAIGN STUDY № 01 / NOVEMBER 2026

Civic Companion ↗

An independent invitation to local life

Good to know.
Good to
be here.

A companion for every place.

A source when you need one. A little art when you don’t. A starting point for being more present in the place you call home.

Meet the public preview

Early preview. Incomplete coverage. No live alerts.

Original geometric illustration: an orange sun over a teal coast, an open arch and a path across warm paper.
Place, in a few shapes. Original vector artwork created with code; not a photograph or a map.

01 / The thought behind the work

Belonging starts
with a useful
little thing.

Our premise: civic information can feel like an invitation.

We want a place to begin that makes room for the practical and the pleasurable: an original council document, an idea for a quiet hour, a moment with art. Useful enough for a small question. Open enough to invite another visit.

The campaign pairs two feelings. “Good to know” asks for clarity, dates and sources. “Good to be here” asks for curiosity, creativity and care. Neither needs a promise of an all-knowing assistant.

This is a creative proposition, not evidence of community demand or a survey finding. The design takes a California midcentury vocabulary of sun, horizon and generous space into a contemporary, 2027-facing editorial system.

Two places. One invitation.

Start where
you are.

Both community views are public previews. Open one, choose a question, then follow a source to its own publisher.

Available now: source links, local keyword matching, artwork and suggested journeys. The published catalog contains 20 suggested journeys and 15 source records; some journeys are planned and some source text is unverified. These counts describe the catalog, not 20 working services or 15 fully verified sources. Source notes ↓

Not enabled in these previews: live alerts, an AI chat service, bulletin delivery, shared identity, voting or omni MCP routing. Source review dates are not current-condition reports. A missing feed says nothing about local conditions.

02 / A small habit, honestly built

Notice. Open.
Find your source.

The relationship begins with usefulness. Returning, contributing and connecting are invitations to earn, not engagement metrics to manufacture.

  1. 01

    Choose your place.

Open El Segundo or Manhattan Beach. Each view has its own starting sources.

  2. 02

    Try a small question.

Try “Find council agendas and minutes” or “Where can I start an art walk?” The preview matches keywords to its directory; it does not generate an AI answer.

  3. 03

    Read the boundary.

Look for the source’s review state and limitation. “Not verified” means the page text was not verified. Check dates at the publisher.

  4. 04

    Go to the original.

Follow the source, confirm the detail, and make your own decision. Return when another useful little question comes along.

The proposed relationship

Contribution, subscriptions and cross-site relationships are future design ideas, not features activated by this campaign.

04 / A little motion. A little space.

Twenty-four seconds
of being here.

A silent motion study, made for this page. Four scenes, with the same words available below. Nothing autoplays. The audio treatment is a production script.

Ready. Silent · 24 seconds · no autoplay.

The on-screen story

  1. 00–06 A place is more than a pin.
  2. 06–12 A source. A small discovery. A reason to look up.
  3. 12–18 Good to know. Good to be here.
  4. 18–24 A companion for every place. Try the public preview.

The proposed audio

Voiceover: “A place is more than a pin. It’s a question. A small discovery. A reason to look up. Good to know. Good to be here. Civic Companion. Try the public preview.”

Sound direction: a dry woodblock pulse, a warm sustained chord, a little space. Commission or create original audio before release. No recording, licensed song or generated voice is included here.

Suggested adaptations: a captioned square social cut, a vertical story and a short audio ident. These are treatments; no social posts or ads have been placed.

05 / A possible next chapter

Many doors.
One considered
way through.

Our proposed network should help a person follow an intention while keeping the source, destination and permission visible.

Individual MCPs could remain useful on their own: a local source guide, a learning tool, an art collection, a publishing tool. A proposed omni MCP could help discover and route between them. It should add a legible path rather than hide each tool’s identity.

Imagine asking for context on a city decision, opening the original record, drafting a personal note and choosing whether to share it. The person would see each destination, what information would travel, and what action would happen before consenting.

This is a future architecture and an example journey. No such routing, cross-site sign-in, publishing or voting is enabled in the Civic Companion previews. This page does not connect MCPs or send any tool calls.

  1. DISCOVERName the source.

Show the publisher, date, place and limits.

  2. UNDERSTANDKeep context attached.

Carry attribution and uncertainty with a summary.

  3. CHOOSEAsk before an action.

Separate reading from saving, posting or signing in.

  4. RECEIPTMake the result legible.

Show what happened, where and when; show uncertainty honestly.

Design direction, not a product availability announcement. A neighborhood should never have to trade clear information for an invisible relationship.

What the product statements rest on

First-party product sources reviewed November 3, 2026 (Los Angeles). The campaign’s invitations and future scenarios are creative proposals. They are not claims about local conditions, city policies or community sentiment.

  1. El Segundo preview. Page wording: It does not use an AI service. Its guide is local keyword matching.
  2. Manhattan Beach preview. Page wording: Incomplete directory and No live alerts.
  3. Published source and journey catalog. The arrays sources and journeys contain 15 and 20 records. Records carry their own review states; planned journeys remain proposals.
